Installing a Child Restraint System in the Rear Seat
(with seat belt fastening in automatic locking mode)
To securely fasten a child restraint system with a seat belt that is in the automatic locking mode, follow the instructions below.
1. Make sure that the rear seat back is securely locked in place by pushing the seat back backwards until the lock engages.
2. Secure the child restraint system using the lap strap of the diagonal lap seat belt. For seat belt routing instructions, see the label on the child restraint system.

3. To switch the seat belt retractor to the automatic belt release locking mode, pull the seat belt out of the retractor completely (fig. 1.142).
4. Firmly install the child restraint system on the vehicle seat. Make sure that the seat belt is tight and fully retracted onto the reel. If the reel is in the automatic locking mode, you will hear clicks when the belt is retracted onto the reel. If the seat belt does not tighten and press the child restraint system firmly onto the seat, you will need to repeat this operation.
Note: Check the automatic locking of the seat belt before each use of the child restraint system. If the retractor is set to the automatic locking mode, the seat belt should not be released when you try to pull it out of the retractor. After removing the child restraint system, fully retract the seat belt to the retractor to set it to the emergency locking mode. Check the normal operation of the seat belt before placing a passenger in this seat.

5. If the child restraint system is designed to be secured with a top tether strap, lift the headrest, hook the strap onto the anchor bracket, and tighten the strap. Follow the child restraint system manufacturer's instructions (fig. 1.143).
