If the airbag system and front seat belt pretensioners are in good condition, the malfunction indicator should come on when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position (ignition on) or when the starter is turned on. Then, after some time, the indicator should go out.

If the indicator light is constantly on or does not turn on at all when the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position (ignition on), this indicates a malfunction of the airbag system or seat belt pretensioners. In this case, immediately, at the first opportunity, contact the service station of the official Mazda dealer. If the indicator indicates a malfunction, then the airbags or seat belt pretensioners may not deploy in a traffic accident.

If a malfunction of the airbag/pretensioner system is detected and the malfunction indicator lamp is illuminated, the audible malfunction alarm will also sound. The audible signal will sound for approximately five seconds every minute.

The airbag/pretensioner seat belt malfunction alarm will sound for approximately 35 minutes.

Visual and audible warning lights additionally remind the driver to fasten the seat belt. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position (ignition on), then the warning visual and audible alarms are activated and operate in accordance with the table below (fig. 1.136).

If the audible alarm is activated, it will continue to sound even if the vehicle speed drops below 20 km/h if the seat belt is not fastened. The alarm will turn off as soon as the seat belt is fastened or after the set time has passed.

Front passenger seat

Visual and audible warning lights remind the front passenger to fasten their seat belt.

If the rear seat belts are not fastened and the ignition switch is in the "ON" position (ignition on), the driver and passengers will be warned of this by means of a visual and audible signal. The visual signal lights up above the rearview mirror (fig. 1.138).

The indicator can be red or green. If the seat belt is not fastened, the red indicator is on. If the seat belt is fastened, the indicator is green. The visual indicators work even if there are no passengers in the back seat. The audible indicator is activated only if the fastened seat belt is unfastened.

Note: If the rear seat belts are not fastened within the set time after the engine is started, all visual warning lights will turn off.
