The VAD control system opens the VAD flap in the air cleaner only at high engine speeds so that engine power is not reduced at high engine speeds due to insufficient air mass flow. The PCM energizes the VAD control solenoid to open the flap if the following conditions are met:
  • coolant temperature - above 70°C;
  • engine speed - above 5800 min⁻¹;
  • throttle opening angle - more than 50%.
