A characteristic feature of Mazda cars is the body design, which uses a trough-shaped floor element together with front and rear longitudinal members. They serve as a support for body parts, front and rear suspension, etc. Elements that are particularly vulnerable in an accident can be unscrewed and repaired or replaced. These include moldings, bumpers, hood, trunk lid and all windows.
The body includes crumple zones (in a front and rear collision) with a safety cell in the center of the car.
The front bumper absorbs the energy of a frontal impact.
Reinforcements built into the body frame provide protection against side impacts.
