The paintwork on your Mazda vehicle is made using the latest advances in paint materials and application technology.

However, if the body is not properly maintained during vehicle operation, aggressive environmental factors can weaken the protective properties of the paintwork.

Below are some examples of possible damage to the paintwork of the car body and measures to prevent it.

Damage from acid rain and industrial pollution

Causes of damage

Industrial pollution and exhaust gases from automobile engines enter the atmosphere and mix with raindrops or dew, forming solutions of various acids. These acids can settle on the paintwork of the car body. Subsequent evaporation of water leads to an increase in the concentration of acids, which can damage the paintwork of the body.

The longer the acid solution remains on the body, the greater the likelihood of damage.

Protective measures

To protect the paintwork, you should wash the body and apply wax polish to it, following the instructions below. These protective measures should be taken immediately if you believe that the paintwork has been exposed to acidic precipitation.

Damage from bird droppings, insects and tree sap

Causes of damage

Bird droppings contain acids. If bird droppings are not removed immediately, the substances contained in them can damage the top clear coat and the base coat of paint.

When insect remains adhere to the paintwork decompose, they form corrosive compounds. If these compounds are not removed promptly, they can damage the top clear coat and the base coat of paint.

The sap secreted by tree leaves hardens when it gets on the paintwork and sticks strongly to the bodywork. If you try to scrape off the hardened sap particles, part of the paintwork may come off with them.

Protective measures

To protect the paintwork, wash the body and apply wax polish according to the instructions below. These protective measures should be taken as soon as possible.

To remove bird droppings, use a soft sponge and water. If you don't have a sponge and water on your trip, you can also use a damp paper towel. The cleaned area should then be treated with wax polish, following the instructions below.

Insect debris and tree sap are best removed with a soft sponge and water or with commercially available cleaning products.

Another way to help remove dirt is to cover the dirty area with a damp newspaper for one to two hours. After removing the newspaper, wash off the softened dirt residue with water.

Stains after water drops dry

Causes of damage

Rain, fog, dew, and even tap water can contain harmful mineral compounds such as calcium salts and oxides. When moisture containing these mineral compounds gets on your car's paintwork and then evaporates, the minerals concentrate and harden, forming white rings on your car's paintwork. These mineral compounds can damage your car's paintwork.

Protective measures

To protect the paintwork, you should wash the body and apply wax polish to it, following the instructions below. These protective measures should be taken immediately if you find traces of water on the paintwork of the body.

Paint chips

Causes of damage

Chips in the paintwork of the car body occur due to impacts from stones flying out from under the wheels of your or other cars.

Measures to prevent paint chipping

Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. This reduces the likelihood of paint chips from flying stones.

Note:
  • Safe (from the point of view of damage to the paintwork) the distance to the car in front depends on the speed of movement. For example, at a speed of 90 km / h, this distance is about 50 m. At low air temperatures, the paintwork of the car body becomes more fragile. This increases the likelihood of paint chips from the impact of stones.
  • Paint chips can be the cause of corrosion on your car's body. Before corrosion starts, touch up damaged areas and restore the paintwork by following the instructions below. If the damaged area is not repaired in a timely manner, it can lead to serious corrosion damage and expensive body repairs.

When using body care products, follow all directions printed on the cleaner or polish container or label. Read all warnings and cautions.
