Pic. 2.141. Measuring the inner diameter of the valve guide
Measure the inside diameter of each valve guide in the X and Y directions at three points (A, B, and C), as shown in Figure 2.141.
If the diameter is not correct, replace the valve guide.
Standard inner diameter:
- Intake: 5.509–5.539 mm;
- Release: 5.509–5.539 mm.

Calculate the clearance between the stem and valve guide by subtracting the outside diameter of the valve stem from the inside diameter of the corresponding valve guide (pic. 2.142).
If the result is not correct, replace the valve and/or valve guide.
- Normal Clearance:
- Intake: 0.024–0.069 mm;
- Release: 0.029–0.074 mm.
- Maximum clearance: 0.10 mm.
