The components of the front drive mechanism are shown in Fig. 3.138.

Removal



Drain the gearbox oil.

Remove the brake caliper.

Remove the brake disc.

Remove the tie rod end ball joint.

Remove the anti-roll bar.

Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the ball joint of the front lower arm (rear end).

Remove the front lower control arm ball joint (front part).

Install the spare nut onto the drive shaft so that the nut is flush with the end of the drive shaft (fig. 3.140).

Hit the nut with a brass hammer to loosen the drive shaft fit in the wheel hub.

Separate the drive shaft from the wheel hub.

Caution! Sharp edges on the drive shaft can cut or puncture the seal. Use caution when separating the drive shaft from the transmission.

Separate the left drive shaft from the gearbox using a rod inserted between the joint and the gearbox as a lever, as shown in Figure 3.141.

Install a special device to hold the axle gears after removing the connecting shaft in the gearbox.

Install a new clamp onto the connecting shaft with the slot facing up. Make sure the clamp diameter does not exceed the standard (fig. 3.143).

After installation, measure the outside diameter.

If it is different from the norm, repeat the installation using a new clamp.

Maximum outside diameter: 31.2 mm.

Insert the drive shaft into the wheel hub.

Apply transmission oil to the seal lip (fig. 3.144).

Insert the drive shaft into the gearbox.

After installation, pull the inner joint housing towards you to ensure that the drive shaft is securely fixed.

Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.
