Check that when hitching with a loaded or empty trailer, the vehicle body remains approximately level, as without a trailer. It is forbidden to operate the road train if the vehicle body is strongly tilted forward or backward. Check the amount of vertical load on the tow hitch and the good condition of the suspension parts. Make sure the trailer is not overloaded.
Make sure that the goods being transported in the trailer are securely fastened. This is necessary in order to exclude the possibility of displacement of goods.
Make sure your rear view mirrors comply with all applicable regulations. Check the serviceability and installation of rear-view mirrors.
Before starting a trip, check that all external lighting and light signaling devices installed on the vehicle and trailer are functioning correctly. Check the tow hitch, safety chains, electrical connectors and other connections between the vehicle and trailer. After driving a short distance, stop and once again check the correct operation of all external lighting and light signaling devices, as well as all connecting nodes between the car and the trailer.
Remember that the maneuverability of a road train is different from that of a vehicle without a trailer. Therefore, make U-turns, drive in reverse and stop on sections of roads free of traffic.
Take your time, first get comfortable and get used to the increased weight and length of the road train.
When towing a trailer, do not exceed the speed limit of 100 km/h. If the Rules of the Road set stricter limits, these limits must be followed.
