Check that the vehicle body remains approximately level when hitching a loaded or empty trailer. It is forbidden to operate the road train if the vehicle body is strongly tilted forward or backward. Check the amount of vertical load on the tow hitch and the good condition of the suspension parts. Make sure the trailer is not overloaded.
Check that the loads in the trailer are securely fastened to prevent them from shifting.
Make sure your rear view mirrors comply with all applicable regulations. Check the serviceability and installation of rear-view mirrors.
Before starting a trip, check that all external lighting and light signaling devices installed on the vehicle and trailer are functioning correctly. Check the tow hitch, safety chains, electrical connectors and other connections between the vehicle and trailer. After driving a short distance, stop and once again check the correct operation of all external lighting and light signaling devices, as well as all connecting nodes between the car and the trailer.
Be aware that the maneuverability of a road train is different from that of a car without a trailer, so make U-turns, back up and stop on traffic-free sections of the road.
Take your time, first get comfortable and get used to the increased weight and length of the road train.
When towing a trailer, do not exceed the speed limit of 100 km/h. If the Rules of the Road set stricter limits, they must be followed.
