1. Unfasten the lap strap of the seat belt installed in the center seat of the rear seat. Always unfasten the center seat belt lap before folding down the left rear seatback. If the lap belt is left buckled, the seat belt, belt buckle, and seatback may be damaged (pic. 1.123).
2. Hold the backrest with your hand.
3. Press the backrest release button.
Returning the rear seat backs to the upright position
1. Raise the backrests to a vertical position.
2. Pull the upper edge of the rear seatbacks from inside the vehicle to make sure the backrests are secure.
3. Fasten the diagonal lap seat belt installed in the center seat of the rear seat. Check that all rear seat belts are correctly positioned.

Returning the rear seatbacks to the upright position If the rear seatbacks are not fully returned to the upright position and not locked, this is dangerous. During emergency braking or abrupt maneuvering of the vehicle, the rear seatback may suddenly fall down and injure the passenger. If a red indicator is visible behind the release button, this indicates that the rear seatback is not locked in the upright position (pic. 1.124).
After returning the backrest to the upright position, check that the red indicator is not visible.
