The timing chain tensioner is oil-filled. The timing chain tension is maintained constant by using oil pressure and the force of the chain tensioner spring. The oil-filled chain tensioner has the following parts: a piston spring that acts on the tensioner lever; a check valve that maintains the force on the tensioner lever (Fig. 2.26).
