The selector lever can be moved from position P only under the following conditions:
  • the brake pedal is pressed;
  • the selector lever button is pressed.

When the brake pedal is not pressed, the slider pin is in the position shown in Figure 3.77, set by the brake pedal. Thus, the slider block is locked by the cam. In this position, the locking cable and the locking cam are locked, the guide pin on the gearshift lever also does not move from its position. Moreover, the selector lever cannot be moved to any position except P.

When the brake pedal is depressed, the slider pin moves freely in the B direction. The slider block can also move freely. The locking cable and the locking cam are not locked, so it is possible to move the lever from the P position.
