This arrangement allows shorter exhaust pipes to be used and the exhaust efficiency to be increased. In addition, due to the reduced distance to the catalytic converter, the exhaust gas temperature drops slightly, so the catalytic converter works more efficiently. Cooling of the exhaust gases is also prevented by the use of double-layer exhaust manifold pipes (Fig. 2.64).
