Check the freezing point of the coolant in the engine cooling system at least once a year - before the start of the winter season, and also before traveling to places where the ambient temperature may be below zero.

Check the condition and tightness of all engine cooling system and heater hose connections. Replace any deformed or damaged hoses.

When the engine is cold, the coolant level should be at the base of the radiator filler neck and between the upper ("FULL") and lower ("LOW") marks on the wall of the expansion tank (fig. 1.180).

If the coolant level has dropped to the lower mark ("LOW"), add coolant to the expansion tank and bring its level to the upper mark ("FULL"). In order to prevent the coolant from freezing and to ensure anti-corrosion protection of the engine, use only the recommended brand and required concentration of coolant for topping up.

Note: If the radiator cap or expansion tank is marked "FL22" or near it, only FL22 coolant should be added.
