Check the coolant level at least once every 4 weeks or before a long trip.

The coolant level of a cold engine (i.e. at a temperature of about 20°C) should be between the "MAX" and "MIN" marks on the expansion tank. When the engine is hot, the coolant level should be slightly above the "MAX" mark.

Large quantities of cold coolant should only be added to a cold engine to avoid engine damage.

Precautions: Open the expansion tank cap carefully when the engine is hot to avoid getting burned. When opening, place a rag on the tank cap. If possible, open the cap when the coolant temperature is below 90°C.

First turn the cap (1) a little to release the pressure, then unscrew the cap further and remove it.

For topping up, use an aqueous solution of antifreeze with anti-corrosion additives.

Note: To continue the trip, you can add clean water, especially in summer, but the required concentration of antifreeze should be restored as soon as possible.

Check the tightness of the cooling system connections if the coolant level drops quickly.
