Checking the engine oil level (Mazda 121 (3))

Approximately every 1000 km or before a long trip, you should check the engine oil level and top it up if necessary. The engine should not consume more than 1.0 liter of oil per 1000 km. If the engine consumes more oil, this indicates wear of the valve stem seals and/or piston rings or seals.

When measuring, the car must be horizontal.

The engine must run for at least 30 seconds.

After stopping the engine, you must wait at least 3 minutes for the oil to drain into the pan.

Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.

Insert the dipstick back until it stops and pull it out again.



There are two notches on the dipstick, corresponding to the "MIN" and "MAX" marks. The oil level should be between the marks.

Attention: If the oil level is above the "MAX" mark, there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter.

If the oil level is at or below the lower mark, add oil up to the upper mark.

Note: If too much oil was accidentally poured in, the excess oil must be sucked out using a special device. The difference between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the dipstick is 0.5-1.0 l.

When topping up, use the right grade of oil and do not use additives to motor oil. If possible, top up with oil of the same brand that is poured into the engine and do not mix oils of different types. In extreme cases, you can fill in oil of one brand, but of a different viscosity, which is allowed to be used at a given time of year.
