To shift the transmission to an adjacent lower gear (relative to the current transmission), press the lever forward. If the vehicle is moving at high speed, the transmission may not shift to lower gears (depending on the speed of the car). When the vehicle slows down, the gears can be automatically downshifted depending on the vehicle speed.
