The gear number on the dashboard lights up (fig. 1.159).
If downshifting is not possible due to vehicle speed being too high, the gear indicator will flash twice to alert the driver that downshifting is not possible at this time.
When the working fluid (ATF) overheats, the automatic transmission may switch from manual to automatic control mode. In this case, the manual mode is cancelled and the gear indicator turns off. This is specially provided to protect the automatic transmission from damage. After the working fluid (ATF) cools down, the gear indicator lights up again and the automatic transmission returns to manual gear shifting mode.
