The gear number on the dashboard lights up (fig. 1.155).
If downshifting is not possible due to vehicle speed being too high, the gear indicator will flash twice.
When the ATF overheats, the automatic transmission may switch from manual to automatic control mode. This cancels the manual mode and the gear indicator turns off. This is specially designed to protect the automatic transmission from damage. After the ATF cools down, the gear indicator lights up and the automatic transmission returns to manual gear shifting mode.
