Pic. 1.156. Gearshift pattern
The vehicle uses a conventional gearshift pattern as shown in the figure (for 5 and 6 speed gearboxes) (pic. 1.156).
When shifting gears, fully depress the clutch pedal. After engaging the gear, gently release the clutch pedal.
5 speed gearbox
Safety device prevents accidental engagement of reverse gear «R» out of position «5», corresponding to fifth gear. To engage reverse gear «R», you must first move the lever to the neutral position.
6 speed gearbox
Cars with a 6-speed gearbox are equipped with a device that prevents mistaken engagement of reverse gear. Press the shift lever vertically down and then move it to the «R».
Attention! Do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal all the time. Depress the clutch pedal only when shifting gears. It is forbidden to keep the car from rolling down on the slope due to slipping of the clutch. Prolonged or heavy slipping of the clutch will lead to premature wear of parts and failure of the clutch. Make sure the vehicle is stationary before engaging reverse gear. Engaging reverse gear while the vehicle is moving can damage the transmission.
Note. If reverse gear is difficult to engage, return the shift lever to neutral and release the clutch pedal. Then try to engage reverse gear again.
