Checking the camshaft (Mazda 6 GG)

Install camshaft journals No.1 and No.5 on the prisms.



Measure the camshaft runout (fig. 2.152).

If the runout is not within specification, replace the camshaft.

Maximum runout: 0.03 mm.

Measure the cam contour height at two points as shown in Figure 2.153.

If the height is not correct, replace the camshaft.

Neck No.1.

Standard L8 camshaft height:

• Intake - 40.79 mm;
• Issue - 41.08 mm.

Camshaft LF, L3:

• Inlet - 42.12 mm;
• Issue - 41.08 mm.

With variable valve timing mechanism:

• Intake - 42.44 mm;
• Issue - 41.18 mm.

Neck #5

Standard L8 camshaft height:

• Intake - 40.692 mm;
• Release - 40.982 mm.

Camshaft LF, L3:

• Intake - 42.022 mm;
• Release - 40.982 mm.

With variable valve timing mechanism:

• Intake - 42.342 mm;
• Issue - 41.082 mm.
