Checking and adjusting the parking brake (Mazda 3 BK)

1. Pull the parking brake lever 2–3 times.

2. Press the brake pedal 2-3 times.

3. Check the stroke of the parking brake lever. Slowly lift the lever until it stops, counting the audible clicks.
  • Lever travel - 4-7 clicks

1. Adjust the clearance between the brake shoes and the brake drum.

2. Start the engine. Press the brake pedal 2-3 times.

3. Turn off the engine.

4. Remove the parking brake lever trim. Rotate the parking brake cable adjusting nut to adjust the lever stroke. After adjustment, tighten the adjusting nut (fig. 1.176).

5. After adjustment, perform the following checks:
  • a) Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, pull the parking brake lever just one click, make sure the parking brake indicator comes on;
  • b) Make sure that the rear wheels rotate freely with the parking brake released.

If necessary, readjust the parking brake lever travel.

6. Install the parking brake lever trim.
