Checking the axial play of the steering wheel (Mazda 3 BK)

1. With the vehicle stationary and the wheels set to the straight-ahead position, rock the steering wheel from side to side with a little effort. If the play is not within the established norms, repair it.

• Steering wheel play - 0–30 mm.

Note: Large total play indicates wear of the joints or large play in the steering mechanism. Eliminate any faults found.



2. Pull the steering wheel in all directions, as shown in Figure 1.177, to detect possible wear of the steering column bearing, play in the steering shaft connection, or looseness of the steering wheel and steering column fastening.
