Fig. 1.174. Vehicle evacuation methods
We recommend that you use only specialized roadside assistance services that belong to official Mazda dealers or operate independently to tow your vehicle.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, all lifting and towing operations must be carried out in strict accordance with the instructions. In addition, all applicable regulations governing the towing and evacuation of vehicles must be observed.
Towing a front-wheel drive vehicle must be done with the front wheels raised. If the damage to the vehicle or other reasons do not allow this, then it is necessary to use support carts for the front wheels.
When towing a front-wheel drive vehicle with the rear wheels supported, release the parking brake.
Do not tow the vehicle by the rear wheels with the front drive wheels resting on the road. This will cause the transmission to fail.
If it is not possible to call a specialized towing service, the car can be towed with all wheels on the road using the front towing eye. In this case, it is allowed to tow the car only on roads with improved surfaces, for a short distance (up to 5 km) and at low speed (up to 25 km/h).
When towing a vehicle with all wheels on the road, follow these instructions.
1. Engage neutral in a manual transmission, move the automatic transmission range selector to neutral position (N).
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position (auxiliary consumers of electricity), in order to prevent the steering wheel lock from engaging.
3. Release the parking brake.
Remember that when the car engine is not running, the power steering and vacuum brake booster do not function.
Warning! Towing eyes are intended for use in emergency situations (for example, to pull out a stuck car). When using the towing eye, always ensure that the towing rope or chain is directed parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Do not apply lateral forces to the towing eye. Do not use the rear eyes for towing the vehicle. These eyes are intended ONLY for securing the vehicle during transportation. Using these eyes to tow the vehicle will damage the rear bumper.
