To avoid damage to the vehicle, all lifting and towing operations must be carried out strictly in accordance with the instructions.
Compliance with all instructions is especially important when towing a four-wheel drive vehicle (4WD), in which all wheels are connected to the transmission. If the instructions for towing a four-wheel drive vehicle are not followed, the transmission may be damaged. In addition, you must comply with all applicable regulations governing the towing and recovery of vehicles.
Front-wheel drive vehicles must be towed with the front wheels raised (the front wheels must not rest directly on the road). If damage to the vehicle or other reasons do not allow this, then it is necessary to use the support carts for the front wheels or a tow truck with a loading platform to load the vehicle.
When towing a front-wheel drive vehicle on the rear wheels, release the parking brake.
For all-wheel drive 4WD vehicles, only evacuation is allowed without contact of the wheels with the road, for example, transportation on the platform of a tow truck.
Attention. It is forbidden to tow the car in reverse with the support of the front drive wheels on the road, otherwise this will lead to transmission failure.
Attention. Do not use towing equipment with a flexible hitch, as this may damage the vehicle. To evacuate the car, you should use tow trucks with a bridge lift or with a platform for loading the car.
Attention. An all-wheel drive vehicle must always be towed without the wheels resting on the road. Towing a four-wheel drive vehicle with the wheels of the front or rear axle on the road is dangerous. This will result in transmission failure. In addition, the vehicle being towed may become unhitched from the tow truck and cause an accident.
If it is not possible to call a specialized towing service, the vehicle can be towed with all four wheels on the road using the front towing eye. At the same time, it is allowed to tow the car only on paved roads for a short distance (no more than 5 km) and at low speed (up to 30 km/h).
Attention.
When towing the vehicle with all wheels on the road, follow these instructions:
1. On a vehicle with a manual transmission, move the gearshift lever to neutral. On a car with an automatic transmission, move the selector to the position «N» («neutral»).
2. Turn the ignition switch to «ACC» («Additional consumers of electricity»).
3. Release the parking brake.
It should be remembered that when the engine is not running, the power steering and vacuum brake booster do not work.
