Deployment of frontal airbags
The front airbags inflate under the conditions below.
- Direct frontal collision of a vehicle with a rigid non-deformable wall at a vehicle speed above 22 km/h.
- Hitting a curb, sidewalk edge, or hard, solid object.
- Hard landing after a jump or car crash.
- An oblique impact to the front of the car, directed within a 60-degree sector.
- Falling into a deep hole or colliding with the wall of the hole.
Conditions under which the front airbags may not deploy.
Depending on the severity and direction of the impact experienced by the vehicle, the front airbags may fail to inflate, for example, in the following cases.
- Collision with a tree or pole. Despite severe damage to the body in such accidents, the longitudinal deceleration of the car may not exceed the specified value at which the front airbags should deploy.
- Oblique impact with the front of the car. In this case, the longitudinal deceleration experienced by the vehicle may not exceed a predetermined amount at which the front airbags should deploy.
- Collision with the rear of a vehicle or the rear underrun of a truck. The longitudinal deceleration experienced by the vehicle in such collisions may not exceed the predetermined amount at which the front airbags should deploy.
Conditions under which the front airbags do not deploy
Frontal airbags generally do not deploy in the following cases.
- Car hit from behind.
- Side impact of the car. However, the side airbag and curtain airbag may be deployed.
- Vehicle overturning. The side airbags and curtain airbags may deploy, but not the frontal airbags.
Deployment of side airbags and curtain airbags
If the force of the side impact (right or left) exceeds a predetermined level, the side airbag and the inflatable curtain located on the side of the side impact are activated. However, the front airbags usually do not deploy.
Conditions under which side airbags and curtain airbags may not deploy
Depending on the severity of the side impact experienced by the vehicle, the side airbags and curtain airbags may not deploy in the following situations, for example.
- Oblique impact with the front of the car. In this case, the lateral deceleration experienced by the vehicle may not exceed the predetermined amount at which the side airbags and curtain airbags should deploy.
- Side impact with a tree or pole. Despite severe damage to the body in such accidents, the lateral deceleration of the vehicle may not exceed the set value at which the side airbags and curtain airbags should deploy.
- Vehicle overturning. In this case, the lateral g-forces experienced by the vehicle may not exceed the predetermined value at which the side airbags and curtain airbags should deploy.
- Side collision with a two-wheeled vehicle. In such collisions, the lateral g-forces experienced by the vehicle may not exceed the specified value at which the side airbags and curtain airbags should deploy.
Conditions under which the side airbags and curtain airbags do not deploy
Side airbags and curtain airbags generally do not deploy in the following cases.
- Car hit from behind.
- Frontal impact of a car. However, in this case, the front airbags may deploy.
