Electronic control unit of the airbag system (indicated by the arrow).
The additional passive safety system consists of an electronic control unit, two collision sensors and airbag modules.
How the system works
In order for the airbags to inflate, the electronic control unit must receive signals from one or both of the crash sensors and the overpressure sensor.
Self-diagnosis system
When a malfunction is detected, the electronic control unit turns on a warning light on the instrument panel. In this case, you must immediately contact a specialist.
Maintenance of components located near the airbag system components
Sometimes, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel, radio, or other element near the instrument panel. The airbag system wires are easy to identify because they have bright yellow insulation. Never disconnect connectors or use electrical test equipment to check the air bag system. Always disable the air bag system before performing repairs near its components.
Disabling the airbag system
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then disconnect the positive battery cable and wait a few minutes.
2. Disconnect the air bag module connector.
Activating the airbag system
1. Connect the air bag module connector.
2. Connect the battery wires.
Removal and installation
Driver's airbag module
Look subsection 10.4.1.
Passenger airbag module
1. Disconnect the battery cables and wait a few minutes.
2. Remove the glove compartment.
3. Unscrew the module connection connectors, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the airbag module.
