Opens and closes the flaps. Typically, a rod under the action of a spring opens the flaps. When vacuum from the intake manifold is applied to the diaphragm compartment, the rod is retracted, closing the flaps. The flaps actuator consists of a rod, a diaphragm compartment, and a spring (Fig. 2.58).
