The coolant temperature sensor should be checked if the engine starts poorly or runs rough when cold. The coolant temperature sensor is located, depending on the year of manufacture and the engine, either on the back of the engine or in the intake manifold.

Removal

Removal

1. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor plug.

2. Unscrew the temperature sensor. Place a clean container underneath and collect the leaking coolant.

Examination

Examination

1. Hang the temperature sensor in a container with water and slowly heat the water.

2. Measure the resistance of the temperature sensor with an ohmmeter. To do this, connect one terminal of the ohmmeter to the body, the other terminal of the ohmmeter to the sensor terminal.

TemperatureResistance in Ohm
-20°C14,2 — 17,8
20°C2,2 — 2,7
40°C1,0 — 1,3
60°C0,50 — 0,65
80°C0,29 — 0,35

Installation

1. Install the temperature sensor with new gasket and screw on with force 25 Nm.

2. Fill with coolant.

3. Warm up the engine and let it idle until the radiator fan comes on. Check the coolant level again.
