If the system does not respond to pressing the buttons on the electronic key and the built-in indicator does not light, then the possible cause is a discharged battery in the key.

Replace the battery before the electronic key becomes completely inoperative.

Attention.

Check that the battery is correctly oriented with the electrical poles. If installed incorrectly, (polarity connection violation) there may be electrolyte leakage from the battery.

When replacing the battery, do not touch the internal circuit and electrical contacts. Be careful not to bend the electrical contacts. Make sure that no dirt gets into the key housing. This may damage the electronic key.

If the battery is replaced incorrectly, there is a risk of explosion.

When disposing of used batteries, please observe the following rules.
  • Insulate the positive and negative terminals of the battery with cellophane or electrical tape.
  • Do not disassemble the batteries.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in fire or water.
  • Do not deform or break the batteries.

When replacing batteries, use only the same type as those installed at the factory (CR2025 or equivalent cells).

The following signs indicate that the battery is in a discharged state:
  • The green keyless entry indicator flashes in the instrument cluster for approximately 30 seconds after the engine has been switched off (in the case of vehicles with type A instrument cluster, the corresponding messages are displayed on the instrument cluster).
  • The system does not respond to pressing the buttons on the electronic key; when pressing the buttons, the indicator built into the key does not flash.
  • Decreasing the range of the electronic key.

To avoid damage to the electronic key, replace its battery at an authorized Mazda dealer. If you replace the battery yourself, follow the instructions below.
