Replace the battery without waiting for the complete loss of functionality of the electronic key.
Attention.
Check that the battery is correctly oriented with the electrical poles. Incorrect installation (polarity reversal) possible leakage of electrolyte from the battery.
When replacing the battery, do not touch the internal circuitry or electrical contacts. Be careful not to bend the electrical contacts. Make sure that no dirt gets into the key body. This may disable the electronic key.
If the battery is replaced incorrectly, there is a danger of an explosion.
Please observe the following when disposing of used batteries.
- Insulate the positive and negative poles of the battery with cellophane or electrical tape.
- Do not disassemble batteries.
- Do not throw batteries into fire or water.
- Do not deform or crush batteries.
When replacing, use only batteries of the same type as those installed at the factory (CR2025 or fully equivalent parts).
The following signs indicate a discharged state of the battery:
- The green keyless entry system light flashes in the instrument cluster for approximately 30 seconds after the engine is stopped (in the case of vehicles with instrument cluster type A, corresponding messages are displayed in the instrument cluster).
- The system does not respond to pressing the buttons on the electronic key; when the buttons are pressed, the indicator built into the key does not blink.
- Reducing the range of the electronic key.
To avoid failure of the electronic key, replace its battery at a service station of an authorized Mazda dealer. When replacing the battery yourself, follow the instructions below.
1. Get the auxiliary key.
2. Insert a small flat screwdriver into the slot in the dongle housing as shown in the illustration. Turn the screwdriver to slightly open the rear cover of the smart key.
3. Insert a small flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap on the side between the back cover and the dongle housing, and turn the screwdriver to remove the back cover.
4. Remove the battery cover and remove the battery.
5. Install the new battery with the positive side facing up. Replace the battery cover.
6. Place the back cover on the smart key and lock it.
7. Remove the auxiliary key.
Attention.
- Be careful not to break or damage the rubber o-ring shown in the illustration.
- If the O-ring has come off, it must be replaced before inserting a new battery.
