2. Check the cable connections to the battery for cracks and corrosion. The presence of white, fluffy deposits under the insulation at the cable clamp connection indicates that the cable is corroded and should be replaced. Check clamps, mounting bolts and nuts for deformation or corrosion.
3. Before replacing the positive cable, disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the cable from the vehicle. Make sure the new cable is the same length and diameter.
5. Clean the starter threads with a wire brush to remove rust and corrosion. Apply a small amount of Vaseline to the threads to prevent future corrosion.
6. Connect the cable to the starter and tighten the mounting nut securely.
7. Before connecting new cables to the battery, make sure they are the correct length and will not be stretched.
8. Connect the positive cable first, then the negative one. Apply a small amount of Vaseline to the battery posts, then tighten the nuts.
