2. Check the cable connection to the battery for cracks and corrosion. The presence of white, fluffy deposits under the insulation on the cable clamp connection is an indication that the cable is corroded and should be replaced. Check clamps, mounting bolts and nuts for deformation or corrosion.
3. Before replacing the positive cable, disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the cable from the vehicle. Make sure the new cable is the same length and diameter.
5. Clean the starter threads with a wire brush to remove rust and corrosion. Lubricate the threads with a small amount of Vaseline to prevent future corrosion.
6. Connect the cable to the starter and securely tighten the mounting nut.
7. Before connecting new cables to the battery, make sure they are the correct length and will not be under tension.
8. Connect the positive cable first, then the negative cable. Lubricate the battery posts with a little Vaseline, then tighten the nuts.
