Precautionary measures
If the following precautions are not observed, there is a danger of electrolyte spillage. In addition, there is a risk of battery explosion or damage to electrical components.
Do not lean over the battery - electrolyte burns.
When starting the engine, do not use an open flame and do not smoke near the battery, because. combustible gases can escape from it.
Make sure that the auxiliary wires are not damaged by moving parts such as a fan.
The cross section of auxiliary wires for starting petrol engines up to 2.5 liters must be at least 16 mm2 (diameter about 5mm). For diesel engines or gasoline engines with a working volume of more than 2.5 liters - at least 5 mm2. The cross section of the wires is usually indicated on their packaging. When buying wires, it is better to buy wires with a cross section of 25 mm2, because. they are more versatile.
Both batteries must be rated for 12V.
A discharged battery can freeze already at -10°C. Frozen batteries must be thawed before connecting auxiliary wires.
A discharged battery must be properly connected to the on-board network.
Check the electrolyte level in the discharged battery, top up with distilled water if necessary.
Cars must not come into contact with each other, otherwise, when connecting the positive contacts of the battery, current will immediately flow.
Apply the parking brake on both vehicles. The transmission must be in neutral, the automatic transmission selector must be in «R».
Switch off all current consumers.
The vehicle's engine with a charged battery should be idling during the start process. This prevents damage to the generator due to voltage surges.
Connect auxiliary wires in the following order:
1. Connect the red wire to the positive terminal of the discharged battery (A).
2. Connect the other end of the red wire to the positive terminal of the charged battery (IN).
3. Connect the black wire to the negative terminal of the charged battery.
4. Connect the other end of the black wire to a good ground (X) car with a dead battery, best of all to the parts of the cylinder block. Do not connect the wire to the negative terminal of a discharged battery, otherwise it may explode if sparked by explosive gas.
Attention! The terminals of the auxiliary wires and the connected wires must not touch, and the contacts «positive» wires must not come into contact with «weight» - a short circuit may occur.
Start the car engine with a charged battery and let it idle. When starting the car engine with a discharged battery, do not turn on the starter for more than 10 seconds, because. due to the high current consumption, the contacts and wires heat up. Between attempts to start, you need to take a break of 30 seconds to cool down.
After starting, disconnect the auxiliary wires in the reverse order, i.e. black wire first, then red.
