If the engine does not start, then the possible cause is an over-rich air-fuel mixture (too much fuel has entered the combustion chambers of the engine).
To start the engine in such a situation, do the following.
1. If the engine does not start on the first try for 5 seconds, wait 10 seconds. Then try to start the engine again by proceeding as follows.
2. Make sure the parking brake is on.
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal to the stop and keep it pressed.
4. On a vehicle with a manual transmission, depress the clutch pedal. On an automatic transmission vehicle, depress the brake pedal. Then press the ignition switch. If the engine starts, immediately release the accelerator pedal. If you do not immediately release the accelerator pedal, then the engine speed will increase sharply.
5. If the engine does not start when the starter is running with the accelerator pedal fully depressed, then after a 10-second pause, turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal. Crank the crankshaft with the starter for 10 seconds or until the engine starts.
If the engine does not start after following the above procedure, stop attempting to start the engine by yourself and contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
