Attention.
- Stop the engine, turn off the ignition, and check that the radiator cooling fan is not spinning before checking or working near the fan blade rotation area. It is dangerous to carry out any work near the rotation zone of the fan blades when the fan is rotating. If the engine has not cooled down, the radiator cooling fan may continue to rotate even when the engine is not running, when the ignition is turned off. You can be seriously injured by being hit by the fan blades.
- Do not remove the radiator and expansion tank caps until the engine and radiator have cooled down.
- If the engine and cooling system radiator are hot, coolant splashes and steam escaping under pressure from the radiator cap or expansion tank can cause severe burns.
- Open the hood only after the complete cessation of steam from the engine cooling system.
- Steam escaping from the cooling system of an overheated engine is hazardous. You may be severely burned by the escaping steam.
If the engine coolant temperature warning light is on, follow these steps:
1. Taking precautions, pull over immediately to the side of the road or driveway and stop.
2. On a car with an automatic transmission, move the selector to the position «R» («Parking»). On a manual transmission vehicle, place the gearshift lever in neutral.
3. Apply the parking brake.
4. Turn off the air conditioner.
5. Check for signs of a coolant leak or steam escaping from the vehicle's engine compartment.
If steam comes out of the engine compartment, do the following:
- Do not get close to the front of the vehicle. Stop the engine.
- Wait until steam stops coming out. Then open the hood and start the engine.
If no steam escapes and no coolant leaks, proceed as follows:
- Open the hood and let the engine idle with the hood open until the engine temperature drops.
Attention. If the radiator cooling fan is not running while the engine is running, the engine temperature will increase. Shut off the engine and go to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
6. Verify that the radiator cooling fan is running. After the engine temperature drops to normal, turn off the engine.
7. After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level.
If the coolant level is below normal, check for signs of leakage from the radiator and connecting hoses.
If you find a coolant leak or other damage, or if the coolant continues to leak, follow these steps:
- Shut off the engine and go to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
If you did not find any malfunctions and there is no coolant leak, then after the engine has cooled down, do the following:
- Carefully add coolant and bring it to the correct level.
Attention. If the engine continues to overheat or overheats frequently, have an authorized Mazda dealer check the engine cooling system. If the engine cooling system is not repaired in a timely manner, it can be seriously damaged and fail. In such cases, you must contact the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
