1. Securely apply the parking brake and place wheel chocks under the front and rear wheels.
2. Check the engine coolant level.
3. Check the engine oil level.
4. Check the automatic transmission fluid level (see the relevant section below).
5. Gasoline engines: check the ignition timing and idle speed.
6. Make sure there are no fault codes in the vehicle's memory.
