Automatic transmissions FW6A-EL, FW6AX-EL, GW6A-EL and GW6AX-EL, used in Mazda CX-5 cars, are distinguished by high performance characteristics: fuel efficiency, fast and smooth gear shifting, smooth and reliable vehicle start.
The mechanical part of the automatic transmission consists of two multi-plate clutches, three multi-plate brakes, an overrunning clutch and three single planetary gears.
Gearbox in section (using the example of gearboxes FW6A-EL, FW6AX-EL)
The electronic control of the automatic transmission consists of three systems responsible for the operation of the torque converter, hydraulic and electronic control mechanisms.

The sports type selector for automatic transmission is used for all versions of Mazda CX-5. To prevent the driver from erroneously switching modes, an electric locking mechanism is used, and to ensure safe driving in the event that gear shifting is impossible for any reason, a manual unlocking system is used.
The shift lock system operates when the ignition is on and the brake pedal is not pressed. It prevents the selector lever from moving from position P to any other position.
If the shift lock mechanism does not release in the normal manner, it can be released manually by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver into the designated hole in the selector lever panel.
