1 - rear cable harness No. 2 first remove the upholstery of the rear pillar of the body and the upper fastening of the seat belt; 2 - water hose of the rear washer glass; 3 - gas-filled stop; 4 - tailgate; 5 - hinge
Remove parts in sequence. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery first.
Attention! This erases the data from the engine fault memory or the radio's security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removing and installing the battery. After installing the battery, connect the ground cable and, if available, set the time on the clock and set the security code of the radio.
Removing
1. Disconnect the washer nozzle hose.
2. Disconnect the plug. First remove the C-pillar upholstery and seat belt anchorage.
3. Mark the installation position of the tailgate, to do this, circle the bolts on the hinge with a felt-tip pen.
Attention! If you want to remove the hinges, you must first remove the inner surface of the ceiling to get to the bolt.
4. Support the tailgate.
5. Unscrew the gas-filled stop from the body.
Attention! When replacing a gas-filled strut, the old strut must be degassed before disposal (performed in the workshop). The gas is colorless, odorless and non-toxic.
6. To turn out bolts on the hinge and to remove a back door. This requires the help of an assistant. Place a protective cloth between the door and the body before loosening the hinge bolts.
Installation
1. Install the tailgate, screw in the bolts, align the tailgate and tighten the bolts with force 10 Nm.
2. Screw on the gas-filled stop.
Attention! With the stop fully extended, do not rotate the piston rod and cylinder relative to each other.
3. To put on a hose of a windshield washer nozzle.
4. Connect the plug of the wiper motor and rear window defroster. Install the C-pillar trim and seat belt anchor.
Tailgate adjustment
1. Loosen the bolts on the hinge and tighten until the door still moves. Pictured MAZDA 323 since 10/89 issue. Adjust door to size (in mm). On vehicles with 9/85 By 9/89 G. issue align the door so that it is parallel and at the same distance from other elements.
2. Tighten the bolts or nuts of the hinges with a force 10 Nm.
3. Close the tailgate and check that the door closes easily and does not have too large gaps. Adjust the striker plate if necessary.
4. Loosen both bolts securing the striker plate so that it still moves.
6. Close the tailgate and align the lock plate on the tailgate. Then tighten the bolts 20 Nm.
