Checking the V-belt
No special tools required. Necessary spare parts:
- 1 V-belt. The length depends on the engine type. Consider this when purchasing. Too little tension leads to increased wear or failure of the V-belt. Too much tension can cause damage to the bearings of the corresponding units.
The V-belt should be replaced if: excessive wear, frayed sidewalls, traces of oil, cracks, transverse tears.
Check the tension of the V-belt, tension and replacement of the V-belt see Chapter Petrol engines, Chapter Removal and installation/tensioning the V-belt.
Replacing the timing belt
Since incorrectly performed work can lead to serious damage to the engine, care must be taken to perform the operations accurately. Replacing the toothed belt is described in Chapter Petrol engines.
