- Four-wheel drive vehicles: check plug gasket.
- Gear oil specification:
- Vehicles up to 9/89 MY: temperature above -18°С: API GL-4 or GL-5 SAE 90 or 80W-90, temperature below -18°С: ATF Dexron-II.
- Vehicles since 10/89: API GL-4 or GL-5 75W-90 or ATF Dexron-II (BP-DOHC: only ATF Dexron-II).
Examination
Front wheel drive vehicles
1. Unscrew the speedometer shaft gear bolt on the gearbox.
2. Remove the gear together with the speedometer shaft from the gearbox housing.
3. Wipe the gear with a clean cloth and reinsert it.
4. Remove the speedometer shaft gear and read the oil level readings. It must be between the F and L marks.
5. Insert the speedometer shaft gear and tighten the fastening bolt.
4x4 vehicles
1. Raise the car in a horizontal position.
2. If equipped, remove the engine and transmission shield.
3. Visually check the gearbox for leaks.
4. Remove the test plug (looking in the direction of travel) from the front of the gearbox housing.
5. The oil level should be at the height of the filler hole. Top up gear oil if necessary.
6. Install the test plug with new gasket and tighten firmly 55 Nm.
7. If equipped, install the engine and gearbox shield.
8. Lower the car.
