Differential box and transfer case — oil change (Mazda Familia BG)

On all-wheel drive vehicles, it is necessary to change the oil in the differential box and in the transfer case. The following spare parts are required:

• Oil filler and drain plug gaskets.
• Transmission oil specification: temperatures above -18°C: API GL-5 SAE 90; temperatures below -18°C: API GL-5 SAE 80.

Replacement

Transfer case

1. Raise the vehicle to a horizontal position.

2. If available, remove the engine and gearbox shield.

3. Perform a visual check of the transfer case for leaks.



4. Unscrew the oil filler plug "B".

5. Unscrew the oil drain plug "A" and drain the oil until it starts dripping. Install the oil drain plug with new gasket and tighten with force 55Nm.

6. Pour in about 0.5 l of transmission oil and check the level with your finger. The level should be at the lower edge of the filler hole.

7. Install the oil filler plug with new gasket and tighten with force 55 Nm.

8. If equipped, install the engine and gearbox shield.

9. Lower the vehicle.

Rear differential

1. Raise the vehicle to a horizontal position.

2. Visually check the tightness of the rear axle.



3. Unscrew the oil filler plug "B".



4. Unscrew the oil drain plug "A" and drain the oil until it starts dripping. Install the oil drain plug with new gasket and tighten with force 55 Nm.

5. Pour in approximately 0.65 l of transmission oil and check the level with your finger. The level should be at the lower edge of the filler hole.

6. Install the oil filler plug new gasket and tighten with force 55 Nm.

7. Lower the vehicle.
