Differential box and transfer case — checking the oil level (Mazda Familia BG)

On all-wheel drive vehicles, it is necessary to check the oil level in the differential box and in the transfer case. The following spare parts are required:
  • Oil filler plug gasket.
  • Transmission oil specification: temperatures above -18°C: API GL-5 SAE 90; temperatures below -18°C: API GL-5 SAE 80.

Examination



Transfer case



1. Raise the vehicle to a horizontal position.

2. If available, remove the engine and gearbox shield.

3. Perform a visual check of the transfer case for leaks.

4. Unscrew the oil filler bolt "B".

5. Insert your finger into the hole and check the oil level. The oil level should be at the height of the filler hole. If necessary, add oil through the hole.

6. Install the oil filler bolt with a new gasket and tighten it with force 55 Nm.

7. If equipped, install the engine and gearbox shield.

8. Lower the vehicle.

Rear differential



1. Raise the vehicle to a horizontal position.

2. Check the tightness of the rear axle.

2. Check the tightness of the rear axle.


3. Unscrew the oil filler plug "B".

4. Insert your finger into the hole and check the oil level. The oil level should be at the height of the filler hole. If necessary, add oil through the hole.



5. Install the oil filler bolt with new gasket and tighten with force 55 Nm.

6. Lower the vehicle.
