Connect the stroboscope in accordance with the operating instructions, while connecting the stroboscope sensor clamp to the high-voltage wire of the ignition coil.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor sensor.

Check the engine crankshaft speed.

Direct the flashing beam of the stroboscope light at the scale on the camshaft drive cover. If the ignition timing is set correctly, then when the engine is idling, the mark on the crankshaft pulley should be opposite the 4th division of the scale.

To adjust the ignition timing, stop the engine, loosen the ignition distributor mounting nuts and turn it to the required angle.

Tighten the mounting nuts and check the ignition timing again.

Disconnect the strobe light.

Connect the vacuum hose to the distributor sensor.

Check the engine idle speed.

Checking the characteristics of the centrifugal ignition timing regulator on a car

Check the ignition timing.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor sensor.

Connect a phase shift strobe light between the high voltage wire of the 1st cylinder and the tachometer.

Taking division 0 of the ignition timing scale as the reference point, check the characteristics of the centrifugal regulator according to the graph given in the subsection "Detailed technical specifications".

If the characteristic differs from the one given, check the ignition distributor sensor on the bench.

Checking the characteristics of the vacuum regulator of ignition advance on the car

Check the characteristics of the centrifugal ignition advance regulator (see above).

Connect a vacuum pump to the vacuum supply nipple of the regulator.

Set the crankshaft speed to 2500 rpm and determine the value of the ignition advance angle using a centrifugal regulator in degrees relative to the zero division of the scale.

Set the vacuum values according to the graph given in the subsection "Detailed technical specifications" and set the crankshaft speed to 2500 rpm.

Measure the ignition advance angle and determine the ignition advance angle provided by the vacuum regulator by subtracting the ignition advance value relative to the zero division of the scale from the obtained value.

If the obtained value does not correspond to that shown in the graph, check the ignition distributor sensor on the bench.
