Removing
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Attention! This erases the data from the engine fault memory or the radio's security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removing and installing the battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel, see Chapter Suspension and steering system, Chapter Removal and installation of a steering wheel.
3. To unscrew the top facing of a steering column and to take out it. Sedan/compact: Remove the lower trim of the steering column and the switch on the steering column.
4. To unscrew a nut of a shaft of a speedometer on a transmission and to take out a shaft of a speedometer.
5. Unscrew and take out the visor of the instrument panel.
6. 9/85 - 9/89 issue: Disconnect the multi-pin plugs from the switch boxes.
7. Loosen the bolts and carefully remove the instrument panel. Disconnect the speedometer shaft and all electrical plugs from the back, then remove the instrument panel.
Installation
Hatchback since 10/89

1. Connect the multi-pin plugs on the back of the instrument panel.
2. Install the speedometer shaft on the back of the shield.
3. Insert and screw on the instrument panel.
