Checking the shift lock solenoid



Note: The shift lock solenoid is built into the selector lever assembly.


1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the front console.

3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

4. Make sure that the voltage at the terminals of the selector lever connector corresponds to the values specified in the table.

5. If the voltage does not correspond to the values given in the table, the corresponding wiring must be repaired or replaced.

6. If the voltage corresponds to the values given in the table, replace the selector lever assembly with a new one.

Testing the Shift Lock Override Button



1. Turn off the ignition.



2. Make sure that the selector lever is in position P.

3. Without pressing the brake pedal, make sure that the selector lever does not move out of position P.

4. Using a flat-head screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape, remove the shift lock release button cover.

5. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the lock release button slot and press down.

6. Make sure that the selector lever can be shifted from position P. If this is not the case, the selector lever must be replaced with a new one.
