Remove the cylinder head cover.
Turning the crankshaft with a wrench on the head of the crankshaft pulley bolt, set the exhaust valve of the 1st cylinder to the fully open position. The crankshaft can also be turned by the front wheel. To do this, raise one of the sides of the car with a jack until the front wheel rotates freely, install the safety stand and engage 4th or 5th gear.
Check the gaps of the inlet valve of the 3rd cylinder and the exhaust valve of the 4th cylinder between the ends of the tip of the adjusting screw and the valve stem with a set of feelers.
In case of deviation from the norm, adjust the clearances of these valves.
Clearances in the valve drive mechanism. The normal clearance between the end of the tip of the rocker arm adjusting screw and the end of the valve stem, measured with a feeler gauge on a hot engine, is 0.25 mm for intake valves and 0.30 mm for exhaust valves.
Adjust the gaps at the remaining valves by turning the crankshaft in sequence until the exhaust valves of the 3rd, 4th and 2nd cylinders are fully opened, following the order indicated in the table.
Fully open exhaust valve cylinder number | Adjust the intake valve clearance of the cylinder number | Adjust the clearance of the exhaust valve of the cylinder number |
1 | 3 | 4 |
3 | 4 | 2 |
4 | 2 | 1 |
2 | 1 | 3 |
Install the cylinder head cover.
