Examination
1. Release the handbrake.
2. Raise the rear of the car.
3. Check the play of the hub bearing by pulling and pressing the wheel on the front and rear sides. There should be no perceptible backlash.
4. Turn the wheel by hand. The bearing should rotate easily and evenly, with no noise from rotation.
5. In workshops, the end play is measured using a dial indicator with the rear wheel removed on the brake drum. The bearing must not have a play of more than 0.05 mm, otherwise it must be adjusted or replaced.
