Checking the rear hub bearing (Mazda Familia BG)

A sign of a faulty hub bearing is an unusual noise when driving, which begins only at a certain (high) speed.

Examination

1. Release the handbrake.

2. Raise the rear of the vehicle.



3. Check the hub bearing play by pulling and pressing the wheel on the front and back sides. There should be no noticeable play.

4. Turn the wheel by hand. The bearing should rotate easily and evenly, and there should be no noise from rotation.



5. In workshops, the axial play is measured with a dial indicator with the rear wheel removed from the brake drum. The bearing should not have a play of more than 0.05 mm, otherwise it must be adjusted or replaced.
