Cars up to 9/89, issue. and models "station wagon" (not all-wheel drive)
Cages of a two-component wheel bearing on cars up to 9/89, issue. located in the brake drum, on vehicles with rear disc brakes - in the brake disc. After each installation, the bearing play must be adjusted with a nut.
Removing
1. Remove the brake drum or brake disc, see Chapter Brake system.
Attention! The hub nut on the left side of the car has a left-hand thread, to loosen it, turn it to the right (clockwise).
2. Remove the loose parts of the bearing.
3. Wipe and inspect the bearing races. If there are defects or visible wear, the entire bearing must be replaced. Do not disassemble the bearing unless necessary.
4. Remove the gland.
5. Knock out both outer clips with a brass rod. At the same time, rearrange the rod around the circumference to different places in order to avoid distortion of the clips.
Attention! Do not use a steel rod so that burrs do not form on the clips.
6. In case of wear, remove the inner race of the bearing from the pin with a standard puller.
Installation
1. Always replace the wheel bearing as a set (inner and outer race as well as the rolling element), even if only one clip is damaged.
2. Visually check the pin for damage and wear, replace if necessary.
3. Evenly hammer in the bearing races -C- with a hammer and a brass rod until it stops. It is better to use a stationary press, if available, with a mandrel of the appropriate diameter.
4. Fill the tapered roller bearing with grease (lithium).
5. Insert the inner bearing.
5. Press evenly new oil seal with a flat plate, do not hit the oil seal directly with a hammer.
6. Coat the stuffing box with grease.
7. Install the brake drum or brake disc and at the same time also insert the outer tapered roller bearing, see Chapter Brake system.
8. Adjust the play of the hub bearing.
9. Screw the wheel, taking into account the mark on the hub. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts crosswise with force 100 Nm.
