Gas engine
Removing
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Attention! This erases the data from the engine fault memory or the radio's security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removing and installing the battery.
2. Disconnect the multi-pin plug -2- behind the alternator.
3. Unscrew the main cable -3- from the terminal IN.
4. Remove the V-belt, see Chapter Gasoline engines, Chapter Removing and installing/tensioning the V-belt.
5. To unscrew bolts on an arm of the generator, and also on a tension bracket and to remove the generator.
Installation
1. Insert the alternator and screw it to the bracket without completely tightening it.
2. Insert tension bolt.
3. Check V-belt wear, replace if necessary.
4. Apply and tighten the V-belt, see Chapter Gasoline engines, Chapter Removing and installing/tensioning the V-belt.
5. Tighten the fastening bolt with force 50 Nm, tightening bolt with force 25 Nm.
6. Connect electrical wires to the generator.
7. Connect the mass cable to the battery.
8. If available, set the clock and set the radio security code.
Diesel engine
Removing
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Attention! This erases the data from the engine fault memory or the radio's security code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in Section Removing and installing the battery.
2. Raise the front of the car, see chapter Introduction.
3. Unscrew the exhaust pipe of the muffler.
4. Disconnect the vacuum hoses -2- by first loosening and moving the clamps.
5. Disconnect oil hoses -3-. Collect leaking oil. Cover the surrounding parts with a cloth.
6. Disconnect the multi-pin connector -5- behind the alternator.
7. Unscrew main cable -4- from terminal B.
8. Remove V-belt -6-, see Chapter Gasoline engines, Chapter Removing and installing/tensioning the V-belt.
9. Unscrew the bolts on the alternator bracket, as well as on the tensioning bracket and remove the alternator -7- downwards.
Installation
1. Insert the alternator and screw it to the bracket without completely tightening it.
2. Insert tension bolt.
3. Check V-belt wear, replace if necessary.
4. Apply and tighten the V-belt, see Chapter Gasoline engines, Chapter Removing and installing/tensioning the V-belt.
5. Tighten the fastening bolt with force 50 Nm, tightening bolt with force 25 Nm.
