Jacking
For many maintenance and repair work, the vehicle must be raised. In workshops, as a rule, the car is lifted with a platform lift, it can also be lifted with a car and workshop jack. The car must be lifted at the points shown below, otherwise deformation cannot be ruled out.
When working under the car, if it is not standing on the platform, it must stand on 2 or 4 reliable supports.
Attention! Under no circumstances should you work under the vehicle if it is not securely fastened or supported only by a lift.
The vehicle can only be lifted when unladen.
When lifting, always secure the vehicle against rolling with wedges.
Platform lift
Attention! Due to the use of rubber or wooden spacers when lifting, damage to the body is avoided.
Front end
On both sides of the threshold.
Rear end
On both sides of the threshold.
Lifting with workshop hoist
Attention! Due to the use of rubber or wooden spacers when lifting, damage to the body is avoided.
Front end
Raise the vehicle from the front using the cross member -arrow-.
Until 9/89, issue. and all generalists
Install two supports on the left and right under the threshold.
Since 10/89, issue.
Install two supports on the left and right under the frame.
Rear end
Raise the vehicle at the rear by the middle of the cross member. On vehicles with four-wheel drive, lift by the differential.
Until 9/89, issue. and all generalists
Install two supports on the right and left under the threshold.
Since 10/89, issue.
Install two supports on the left and right under the frame.
Board jacking points
The mounting points for the onboard jack are marked with indentations on the threshold. Install the jack in these recesses, while the bulges on the threshold should enter the groove of the jack.
Wheels that remain on the ground during lifting should be secured with wedges. Do not rely on the parking brake as it must be released for many jobs.
Raise the vehicle only on a level, stable surface.
Attention! If the vehicle needs to be lifted on soft ground, place wide planks under the jack or trestle to distribute the weight over a larger area.
Install the trestle so that one support on each side faces outward.
Attention! Under no circumstances should the vehicle be lifted by or supported by the engine or gearbox. Never start the engine of a raised vehicle or engage a gear while only one drive wheel is on the ground.
Car towing
Front towing earrings on cars up to 9/89, issue. and all generalists
The front towing eyelets -arrows- are located on the left and right under the bumper.
Front towing earrings with 10/89
Front tow hook
The front towing eyelet -arrow- is located in the bumper.
Rear towing earrings
The rear towing hooks -arrows- are located under the rear bumper.
Towing Rules
1. Turn the ignition switch to position "ACC" (I), to unlock the steering wheel and be able to turn on the horn and/or wiper.
2. Set the gearbox to neutral. On vehicles with automatic transmission, set the gear selector to "N".
3. In Germany, turn on the hazard warning lights on both cars (or follow other rules).
4. Since the brake booster works only when the engine is on, more force must be applied to the brake pedal on vehicles with a brake booster and the engine off.
5. On vehicles with servo control, more effort is needed to control, since the servo amplifier does not work when the engine is not running.
6. Tow the vehicle only in the direction of travel.
7. The towing cable or bar must be placed so that the towing eyelets are not loaded with lateral forces.
8. To protect vehicles, the tow rope must be flexible. Use only polymer cables or cables with an elastic link.
Attention! It is safest to use a tow bar.
Attention! Maximum towing speed: 50 km/h! Maximum towing distance: 80 km/h!
9. For long distance towing, raise the front of the vehicle.
10. Without transmission oil, the vehicle can only be towed with the front end raised.
11. With the help of a special towing vehicle, the car can only be towed forward (with front wheels up). The front wheels of the vehicle with the rear wheels raised must be mounted on a trolley.
12. On vehicles with four-wheel drive, all wheels must be raised. Tow vehicle L - 6813, or fully submerge it.
Attention! Towing start is not possible for vehicles with automatic transmission. Also, vehicles with a catalytic converter must not be towed, otherwise there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter.
