Mazda 323 is equipped with a four-cylinder in-line water-cooled engine located across the direction of travel.
To prepare the working mixture, depending on the model, either a carburetor or an electronic fuel injection system is used, which, as a rule, does not require maintenance.
The drive of the front wheels is carried out through a manual gearbox or 3 or 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Mazda 323 is also available in an all-wheel drive version. Additional elements are required to drive the rear wheels. The drive of the front and rear wheels is connected by a cardan shaft. The cardan shaft drives the rear wheel differential, from which two drive shafts extend to the rear wheels.
The steering mechanism is located to the left of the engine and is connected to the steering levers by means of rods. Some models are equipped with power steering.
The brake system consists of the main brake cylinder, brake booster, front wheel disc brakes and rear wheel drum brakes. Some models also have disc brakes on the rear wheels.
Depending on the Mazda 323 model from 10/89 MY. can be equipped with an anti-lock system (ABS).
